Built like an airplane, the Switchback X1 is designed to withstand the extreme stress and vibration of off-road use. Using aerospace fabrication methods, the X1 features precision laser-cut sheet aluminum and aircraft-grade rivets. This flexible and modular camper-system is customizable for a multitude of disciplines for year-round adventures.
The canopy portion of the camper which is called the Fuselage, is built from .080 5052 aluminum sheet that is laser cut, break formed, and riveted together with solid rivets in their manufacturing facility. The clamshell that mounts to the fuselage and houses the tent is built from a combination of the brand s proprietary extrusion and custom parts machined from 6061billet aluminum to their specifications. These parts hold composite panels that make the floor and ceiling of the clamshell.
The composite material used is common in transportation and aerospace industries and is built with exterior layers of fiberglass over a honeycomb polypropylene core that give them a great strength to weight ratio and maintain transparency for radio signals, so the clamshell does not interfere with over-cab antenna placements. All sheet metal parts are powder coated and all machined parts are anodized with a UV stable formula that was developed to survive UV sterilization in a medical setting.
The all-weather tent is meticulously hand-sewn in Oregon with marine-grade material called Top Gun 9, making it one of the most durable and sophisticated tents of its kind. It is a polyester textile that is impregnated with an acrylic treatment to provide a durable, weatherproof finish. This fabric was developed for sail bags and dodgers that are continuously exposed to harsh maritime conditions.
The adjustable ventilation system creates optimal airflow and reduces condensation. Each vent has a rain fly that can be opened with a fiberglass batten from the interior of the tent to provide passive air circulation in all conditions. Above each door is a screened vent that can be opened for ventilation or closed to retain heat. The XL sleeping loft and functional floor panels offer many solutions for multiple occupants and furry companions. The bed platform is purposefully designed around the Exped Megamat Duo LW+ Mattress, among the most comfortable camping mattresses available. Unwind for the night and take in the scenery with three no-see-um grade screened doors and 270 views.

The Free Flow vent system is designed to give you control over temperature and condensation for the ultimate comfort level. The modular Molle Panels allow gadgets to be kept right where you need them – close yet out of the way. Universal t-slots are included: Awnings, cross bars, solar, you name it, the t-slots can handle it. More features include 3 zippered and screened tent doors, 3 locking canopy doors, a 3rd brake light, and cabside acrylic windows.
Customization becomes effortless with the modular platform, adapting your gear setup to your changing needs. A mobile gear locker (commerical-grade canopy) is built in for secure storage and allows you full access from all sides. All three canopy doors are keyed alike and can be opened with one hand for full access to the sides of your truck bed to easily load and access your gear during your work week and your weekend adventures.
